Pennsylvania CME Requirements for Psychiatrists
ABPN Requirements for Psychiatrists
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) requires:
- Complete 90 CME credits per 3-year block (average of 30 CME credits per year)
- Complete 16 Self-Assessment (SA) CME credits per 3-year block
- Complete one Patient Safety activity (one-time requirement)
- Complete one PIP activity (Clinical or Feedback Module) per 3-year block
- Choose either CC/recertification examination every 10 years OR ABCC Pathway (article-based) every three years
- Maintain unrestricted medical license(s)
- Pay the annual fee
These requirements must be met during each 3-year block of the continuous certification program. CME activities do not need to be ABPN-approved, but Self-Assessment activities must be selected from the ABPN Approved Products List.
Pennsylvania State-Specific Requirements for All Physicians
- 100 hours of CME every 2 years
- At least 20 hours must be Category 1 credits
- 12 hours must be in patient safety or risk management
- 2 hours in child abuse recognition and reporting
- 2 hours in pain management, identification of addiction, or practices of prescribing or dispensing opioids
